This is how Nashville charts success, this is how many times you heard this guy pre racial slur. He in affect has been canceled. I have a few questions. Is Morgan Wallen a racist? He came out of Nashville like he was fired out of a gun, so I asked a friend (board member of the Academy of Country Music) what he was like. He gave me an emphatic “great guy” (again pre-slur)so my question is this? If he is in fact a bad guy and people knew it, how did he become such a big star? You may say you don’t know him but he’s a huge chart topper and was on SNL. He has had some issues but that was chalked up to being a “dumb kid”. In the wake of his fall many “woke” Nashville artists came out and said “country Music has a problem” and it’s that word that gets tossed around a lot these days “RACIST” now stop there for a moment. Music city is welcoming to anyone that can help broaden their audience, trust me it’s a town that begs for inclusion. They want as many people listening to their music as possible. Hell I think you hear Nelly on country radio more than anywhere else. But back to my question if this guy was some hate filled jerk how and why did he make it? Nashville has a polish machine that could make a new car showroom blush, so who dropped the ball on this guy? It’s funny, but artists of color such as Jimmy Allen have said “we can’t just throw people away” But, no one can expect to do what Morgan has done and said without major repercussions. In light of his record label dropping him, his music is still in in the top 10 (5 of his songs were top 10 as of Monday) so I wonder if his label who no longer supports him is sending that money they are making off him to charity? Perhaps to fund programs that teach inclusivity, and tolerance? I doubt it. The bigger issue here says a lot of what Nashville is really about, and really what life has become. If you screw up you are dead to the industry, if you get old you move to Branson. If you don’t have the “look” We don’t need you. To quote the John Anderson song “catch a falling star” “nobody loves you when you’re down” we live in a 30 second society. While I haven’t even answered my own question perhaps the real question is, does Nashville or the music business really care as much as they say they do? Or are they just saving their own ass? I think I know the answer to that question. Not that hard to be a good person let’s do our best today.

*This post is not an excuse for the guy. His history says he needs some help. And saying “well other music says it…..” don’t say that, that’s a shallow excuse .

My personal belief is that a lot of those record execs and radio execs were just out to save themselves. I bet a good number of them could care a less about what he said, but felt obligated to cancel him just to save their own ass. They could stand up for the little guy, but no they are selfish and are too afraid to make their real opinion known. I’m not a Bobby Bones fan, but I heard a little bit of his show the other day and even he said he thought everyone was quick to rush judgement and cancel him. He said he got a lot of crap from people for expressing his opinion, but of course you’re not allowed to do that anymore these days. Everyone has to agree with the majority and has to be 100% PC otherwise you’re wrong and you get judged and labeled. The guy made a mistake and I’d like to hear from the friend he was with who he used the N word with. If the friend didn’t care then why should anyone else care?
